The Reconstruction of Tram Route 7 Coming to a Close

About 95% of the construction work on site has been completed as foreseen in the project. The reconstruction will be fully completed by mid-June, and low-floor trams could, in the near future, start running on the route.

The works are now in their final stages and the track of tram route 7 will accommodate low-floor vehicles. This has involved major developments: new bus stops, streetlights, landscaping, new traffic lights, repaved streets and rebuilt or refurbished tracks. Significant improvements have also been made to the overhead lines and a new traction substation has been built to supply power to the trams going all the way to Akropole.

In May, workers were still busy on the route, but the job is almost done as the landscaping is now in its final stages. The substation has also been made operational and is fully ready to start actively supplying power to the trams. On the surface, it might seem that there have been only cosmetic repairs carried out on the stops and tracks, but Jānis Golubevs, a member of the Board of “Rīgas satiksme”, says: "The project was complicated because of the heavy traffic on the route, but we managed to accomplish an impressive amount of work in a short time across the entire construction area."
